THE PERFECT BALANCE

Light enough to breathe.

The 4.5 tog is the standard for summer duvets for a reason. Lightweight and breathable, it's light enough to stop you overheating but substantial enough that you're not just sleeping under a sheet.

Our best summer duvets come in goose down, silk and hypoallergenic microfibre. Goose down regulates temperature naturally, making it one of the best fills for hot summer nights.

If you tend to be a hot sleeper, the all seasons duvet is worth considering. The lighter layer detaches and works as a standalone summer duvet, earning its keep year round.

Frequently Asked Questions

A 4.5 tog duvet is the standard summer weight. It holds enough loft to feel like proper bedding rather than a sheet, while letting body heat escape before it wakes you.

Anything from 1 to 4.5 tog counts as summer weight, but 4.5 is the sweet spot for most sleepers. Drop all the way to 1 tog and you lose the structure that makes a duvet worth having.

For breathability, goose down is hard to beat. The clusters wick moisture and release heat rather than trapping it against the body, so a low tog down duvet regulates temperature instead of just insulating.

Microfibre and hollowfibre cost less and wash easily, though they tend to hold warmth closer to you, which is the last thing you want in July. Whatever the fill, the tog rating does more of the work than the material alone.

Usually the tog is too high for the room and the cover is sealing in moisture. Your core temperature drops as you fall asleep, so a duvet built to hold heat ends up fighting your own biology.

The fix is two-part: move to 4.5 tog or lower, and pair it with a breathable natural cover like Cotton Sateen rather than polyester, which traps warmth against the skin.

If you overheat at night, yes. A single mid-weight duvet is a compromise that runs hot in summer and cold in winter, so it never quite gets either right. A low tog summer duvet fixes the part of the year most people sleep worst.

An all seasons set, where a 4.5 tog and a warmer duvet button together, covers both without leaving a spare duvet in storage for six months.
